"So much of what is best in us is bound up in our love of family, that it remains the measure of our stability because it measures our sense of loyalty." -Haniel Long

Enjoy Thanksgiving!

Last week was a fun and exciting week for our class. We were lucky enough to have author, Jeff Kinney, visit LSS. The entire school received autographed copies of his newest book! We also had a fun field trip to Legoland, where we learned about force and motion. This learning experience will help us when we talk more about simple machines later on this year.

This week is a short week for us, so there will be no spelling homework. We will have math homework on Monday night only (elapsed time practice).

Please take the time to reflect with your student about what they are thankful for during this Thanksgiving season. Our thankful writing will be sent home on Tuesday to share. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

We will not have any spelling homework this week, since it's a short week. We will have the math homework.

Please remember that everyone should be practicing their math facts and reading at least 15 minutes a night.

I wanted to congratulate all of the students who worked hard at home to create such wonderful Cornfield Characters. Students' creativity really shined through on this project.

In the classroom we've been working on many new and exciting things. We've been studying about the solar system in science. Students are becoming experts on a planet and putting together a nonfiction writing sample to show their expertise.  In math we have been learning the CUBES strategy for solving word problems. We have also been learning about bar graphs and pictographs. In literacy we've been focusing on responding to literature.

If students would like to practice on IXL, some great choices for them would be P.4, P.5, P.6, P.9, and P.10.
